Every blue moon, we may play a round of doubles. When we play doubles, it's usually on a very tough course like Manor or Circle C.
Bag Tags are not in play when we play doubles. Partners are usually determined by flipping discs.
Doubles can be played in a number of different formats including best shot, alternate shot, and worst shot. We almost always play best shot. This means that each player throws from the teebox and the players choose which shot they will both throw from next. They continue to choose their shot until one player holes out. This means that if one player gets a penalty, like Out of Bounds at OSP or a disc above 2 meters, the team will generally choose the other shot to avoid the penalty stroke.
What happens when we don't have an even number?
Sometimes we allow one team to have an extra person. If we have an odd number at the start, we might have a player play Cali. Cali, short for "California" means they are their own partner. This means that they get one extra shot per hole. It's not uncommon for a Cali player to win a round of doubles even though they only get one extra shot per hole. If the Cali player double-buys into the ace pot, they automatically get two drives on each hole and can still choose an extra shot.
Sometimes we will play doubles for the pre-round as it makes a for a good warm-up.
